Tuhin Ghosh

Chief Investment Officer

Tuhin was among the earliest team members at Motif and co-invented several of the methods used to build and trade motifs. Prior to joining Motif, Tuhin led the development of high-frequency algorithmic trading strategies for index and commodity futures and ETFs at Ronin Capital, LLC. Previously, he was a Quant Strategist within a long-short equity fund at Barclays Global Investors (subsequently acquired by BlackRock) where he worked on the development and testing of alpha signals. His prior experiences include Intel Corporation and Los Alamos National Labs. Tuhin holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY) and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering & Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. Tuhin is a CFA Charterholder and holds the Series 7, 24, and 63 licenses.

Past Chief Technical Officer at Motif

Michael is a passionate technologist with experience ranging from trading systems, to search, to big data. In his tenure at Motif he has built critical pieces of infrastructure as well as led teams responsible for the core pieces of the system. He holds four patents for his work at Motif. Michael comes to Motif from Amazon's A9 search technology group where he worked on building data pipelines and distributed systems to analyze trillions of user actions as well as systems to measure search relevance. Prior to A9, Michael worked on realtime systems integrated into Sprint's CDMA cell phone signaling system at Telespree Communications. Michael holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University.

Jerry is a private investor/advisor to technology driven consumer start-ups. Jerry was previously a partner with Arrowpath Venture Partners, a $325 million venture capital firm investing in early-stage technology start-ups. Prior to Arrowpath, he was President, COO and CMO for E*TRADE Group Inc. where he established E*TRADE as a leader in online banking and brokerage services. Mr. Gramaglia currently serves as chairman of the board for Acxiom (ACXM), and is also on the board of Coldwater Creek (CWTR), and WageWorks. In addition, Jerry serves as co-chair of the Stanford Stroke Center advisory board. Jerry began his career at Procter & Gamble and later held senior marketing and general management positions with Nestle, Imasco, PepsiCo and Sprint. He is a graduate of Denison University.

Tim is an advisor to Motif Investing and has been a General Partner at Balderton Capital since 2007. Previous to Balderton Tim was a partner at Goldman Sachs and held various roles including Global Head of Equity Capital Markets (2002 to 2005) and Vice-Chairman of Goldman Sachs International (2005 to 2006). He began his career at L.E.K. Consulting in London. Tim is a Governor of Wellington College and the Wellington Academy, a Trustee of the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. He graduated from the University of Cambridge with a BA in Economics.

As a partner at Goodwin Procter, Caine focuses on advising software, telecommunications, Internet, and financial services companies through all stages of their growth. He has broad transactional expertise, particularly in the areas of venture capital, public and private mergers and acquisitions, and representation of issuers and underwriters in public equity offerings. Caine is a frequent speaker on topics related to securities laws and corporate governance and in 2011, the Daily Journal named him one of the "Top 20 Under 40" lawyers in California. Prior to joining Goodwin Procter in 2010, Caine was a corporate and securities partner in the Silicon Valley office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. He holds a JD from Harvard Law School and a BA from Stanford University.


Daniel Tierney

Dan is an advisor to Motif Investing and previously co-founded GETCO (now KCG), one of the world’s leading technology-enabled market makers and agency execution service providers. He currently serves as a board member and advisor at KCG Holdings, Inc. and is an active investor in technology companies. Prior to founding GETCO, Dan worked as a market maker on the floor of the Chicago Board Options Exchange. Dan holds a degree in Economics and Finance from Bentley College in Massachusetts.


Connie Kuhl

As one of the early executives at E*TRADE, Connie brings to Motif Investing a wealth of experience in the online brokerage space and an impeccable track record for success. Her career at E*TRADE spanned over 13 years, during which time she held roles such as Chief Communications Officer and Senior VP of Global Service Quality & Brokerage Operations. Connie was instrumental in building and growing the franchise from $23M to $2B in annual revenue and taking the company public in 1996. She has served on the Boards at Archipelago Holdings, E*TRADE Securities, Web Street, and as an advisor to the Chicago Board of Options Exchange.

Bill Ihrie is a seasoned executive with nearly 40 years of experience in the software industry. Most recently he was a Senior Vice President at Intuit – six years as Chief Technology Officer, and two years running product development for Small Business. Prior to Intuit, Bill was Senior Vice President at ADP leading Product Development and business strategy. He has also held key positions at Security Pacific Bank, Computer Usage Company, and Bell Labs. Currently Bill is President of Cytobank and advises/invests in/participates on the boards of several startups and not-for-profits. Bill earned his BS degrees in mathematics and management from M.I.T. and his Master of Arts degree in computer science from U.C. Berkeley.
